Chandigarh: Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has congratulated athletes Tejinder Pal Singh Toor and Harmilan Bains who won gold medals in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships and the Indian women’s badminton team, which became champions for the first time in the Asian Championships. In the ongoing Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Tehran, Punjab’s athlete Tejinder Pal Singh Toor won gold medals in shot put and Harmilan Bains in 1500 meters. Tejinder Toor also created a new national record by throwing the shot 19.72 meters.
In his illustrious sports career, Toor has already won gold medals twice in the Asian Games and thrice in the Asian Championships. Harmilan, who won the gold medal in 1500m with a timing of 4.29.55, had won two silver medals in the Asian Games last year. On the other hand, in the Badminton Asian Team Championship in Malaysia, the Indian women’s badminton team won the gold medal by defeating Thailand 3-2 in the final. Indian women’s team has won the Asian Championship for the first time. Tanvi Sharma of Punjab is a member of this team.
