The Delhi High Court has directed the Central Government to respond to the petition of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) against the suspension. Justice Subramaniam Prasad has issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs asking it to respond to the petition within four weeks. The next hearing of the case is to be held on May 28.
After the election of new office bearers on 24 December 2023, the Center had suspended the WFI for not following the provisions of its own constitution while taking decisions. Senior advocate D Krishnan, appearing for the WFI, said no show cause notice was issued before suspending the federation indefinitely.
He said this violates the constitutional provisions of the WFI and the National Sports Code which states that a show cause notice is required before taking such action.
