London. The conditions in England can be tough for the batsmen but Indian skipper Rohit Sharma believes that a batsman can succeed in these conditions if he shows enough discipline.
Rohit Sharma said on a Star Sports program, “The conditions in England are generally very challenging for batsmen, but as long as you are ready to show discipline, you can have some success as a batsman.”
Rohit’s team will face Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final starting on Wednesday at The Oval ground here. Rohit has played only one Test match at this ground before, where he played a key role in India’s victory over England by scoring a century of 127 runs.
Rohit said, “I have realized while batting here (in 2021) that you are never set, because the weather keeps changing. So you have to stay focused for a long time and that is the challenge of this format. You will get a sense of when to dominate the bowler. You have to be ready for that opportunity. Most importantly, you have to be there on the pitch.”
Rohit said, “It is one of the most favorable wickets for batting. You get good returns on your shots. The boundary is very sharp on the right and left. So all you have to do is give yourself a chance, that is, focus for a long time.” After meeting India in the title match, Australia will face England in a five-match Ashes Test series. Australia skipper Pat Cummins said he is not putting much effort into practice keeping in mind the long tour ahead.
Cummins said, “We try to take breaks when we get a chance. I’ve always said we’ve got six Test matches in Australia. In the next two months, I would prefer to work a little less than to work excessively. This is from a bowler’s point of view. I always feel like it doesn’t take a lot to get ready.
I want to make sure I stay physically fresh for the matches.” He said, “Obviously in our country we did a lot of training. The whole team has reached here.
