Paris. Elina Svitolina defeated Martina Trevisan in straight sets in the first round of women’s singles here on Monday, playing her first match at the French Open in almost a year and a half after becoming a mother.
Svitolina, who gave birth to daughter ‘Ska’ in October, defeated Martina, who reached the semi-finals in 2022, 6-2, 6-2. Svitolina, a former world number three, currently has a world ranking of 192. In January 2022 Svitolina is playing in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since her third round exit at the Australian Open.
Svitolna played her first match back on the WTA Tour in April in Charleston, South Carolina, and won her first title at a clay court tournament in Strasbourg, France, last week. Her strong forehand helped Svitolina hit 20 winners at Roland Garros on Monday. While her rival could only put up 12 winners. The Ukrainian did not face a single break point against 26th seed Martina.
