Sri Lanka recalls Lahiru Kumara, Kamindu Mendis for ODI series

Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday announced its 16-member ODI squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, which sees the return of fast bowler Lahiru Kumara, who has been in fine form in the recent List A matches, taking nine wickets. Have done.
He is joined in the list of returnees by batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis, who impressed during the T20 series against Bangladesh.
Notable absent players include veteran fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, who has been ruled out due to injury, and batsman Shevon Daniel, who has seen only limited cricket time despite being part of the squad in the last two ODIs. Test captain Dhananjay de Silva has also been left out, while Kamindu’s inclusion has given him preference over Shevon Daniels.
The team also returns opening batsman Pathum Nissanka, who has now recovered from a hamstring injury, and off-spin-bowling all-rounder Sahan Arachige, who has been in good form at the domestic level with both bat and ball.
While Lahiru Kumara has added experience to the pace attack, Sri Lanka have opted for a diverse seam bowling lineup, including Pramod Madushan, Dilshan Madushanka and all-round options Chamika Karunaratne and Janth Liyanage. Dasun Shanaka is notably absent.
In the spin department, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahesh Theekshana are expected to lead the way, with Akila Dhananjay and left-arm spinning all-rounder Dunith Velalej also in contention.
Having won both their ODI series against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at the start of the year, Sri Lanka are aiming to continue their winning momentum in their first overseas series of 2024.
The opening match of the series is scheduled for Wednesday in Chittagong, setting the stage for an exciting clash between the two sides.
