Earlier, Ranasinghe had said in Parliament that Wickremesinghe was trying to implicate him for political vendetta and was using false facts related to a vehicle. The minister said that a vehicle imported by him has been seized by the authorities on the pretext of tax fraud so as to implicate him on false charges.
Allegations of corruption in cricket were made
Referring to his move to appoint an interim committee to run the Sri Lankan cricket administration, Ranasinghe said, ‘Will I get this reward for exposing corruption in cricket? I took action on the basis of the audit report. He further questioned why the President was taking political revenge when as Sports Minister he had only exposed corruption.

News website ‘Newswire.lk’ quoted Ranasinghe as saying, ‘My life is in danger, I may be killed today or tomorrow. If anything happens to me, the President and his advisor Sagala Ratnayake (Chief of Presidential Staff) should be held responsible. Earlier this month Ranasinghe had sacked the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) management and appointed former World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga as the head of a seven-member interim committee to run the cricket board but the appeals court a day later Restored it.

However, the Sri Lankan Parliament unanimously passed a resolution dismissing the country’s Cricket Governing Board, which amounted to government interference.
