Stop clock rule approved in ODI and T20!

Dubai . The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to implement the stop clock rule permanently after a successful trial period. The purpose of this rule is to prevent wastage of time between overs so that the match can be finished on time.

According to Cricbuzz, the rule was initially introduced on a trial basis in December 2023. It has now been approved for implementation in all white-ball cricket, including T20 Internationals and ODI Internationals.

The goal of the stop clock rule is to reduce time wastage during a match.

According to this rule, after the end of one over, the fielding team has to start the next over within 60 seconds i.e. one minute.

As soon as the over is over, the stop watch will start and then within 60 seconds the team will have to start the next over. If the fielding team is not able to follow this rule, then there is also a penalty rule on them.

Due to this mistake, the fielding teams may be fined five runs. However, before this they will be warned twice. The rule will be implemented for all ICC white ball formats.

The stop clock rule was approved during the ongoing ICC meetings in Dubai, sparking discussions about its use in future tournaments. However, there was no discussion regarding the Champions Trophy.

With Pakistan being named as the host country, there is speculation about India refusing to tour the country, reminiscent of last year’s Asia Cup format change.
