If the fielding team does not do so, it will be given two warnings and subsequent violations will be fined five runs for each incident. However, the ICC also added some exceptions to the rule and the clock will be voided in situations where a new batsman comes in mid-overs. This includes the official ‘drinks break’ and on-field treatment in case a batsman or fielder is injured.

This rule will also not be enforced if time is lost due to circumstances beyond the control of the fielding team. In the ICC meeting, ‘reserve’ (safe) days were also approved for the semi-finals (27 June) and final (29 June) of the T20 World Cup. For a complete match during the league or Super Eight stage, the team batting in the second innings will be required to bowl at least five overs. But in a ‘knockout’ match, 10 overs will need to be bowled in the second innings for a complete match.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: India on top in T20 rankings

The global governing body also approved the qualification process for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. 20 teams will participate in the tournament, out of which 12 will automatically qualify. The top eight teams will automatically qualify for the 2024 World Cup, along with India and Sri Lanka, while the remaining two spots will go to the next best ranked team in the ICC T20 International rankings till June 30, 2024. After this, the remaining eight places will be decided through ICC regional qualifiers.
