Grouped in the toughest group of the tournament, India had already crashed out of the mixed team championship after losing 1-4 to Chinese Taipei and 0-5 against Malaysia. The team did not get off to a good start against Australia as well. The mixed doubles pair of Sai Prateek and Tanisha Crasto went down 21-17 14-21 18-21 against Kenneth Zhe Hui Tzu and Gronya Somerville. HS Prannoy, however, leveled the scores with a stunning 21-8 win over Jack Yu in just 28 minutes.

With the team out of the title race and nothing at stake, India brought in Anupama Upadhyay in place of PV Sindhu in the women’s singles and the youngster did not disappoint.
