After the fall of Kishan’s wicket, Suryakumar batted stormy and made an unbeaten 140-run partnership with Wadhera to bring Mumbai close to victory. When Mumbai were eight runs away from victory, Suryakumar and Tim David were dismissed in consecutive balls, but Wadhera completed his half-century by hitting a six in the 17th over and gave Mumbai the win.

Mumbai (12 points) have moved to the third position in the points table with this win, while RCB (10 points) have moved to the seventh position after this big defeat.

RCB lost the wickets of Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat for 16 runs while batting after losing the toss. Du Plessis got a reprieve in the first over and took advantage of it to add 56 runs in the powerplay with Maxwell batting at a blistering pace. Maxwell, playing a leading role in this partnership, completed his half-century in 25 balls, while Du Plessis also got the momentum in a while by hitting a 30-ball fifty.

In front of this partnership, Mumbai’s best bowler Piyush Chawla also looked ineffective and ended his four overs without taking any wicket for 41 runs. Maxwell-du Plessis shared a total of 120 runs for the third wicket, which was broken by Jason Behrendorff in the 13th over by dismissing Maxwell. Maxwell smashed 68 off 33 balls with eight fours and four sixes to put RCB in a strong position, though the innings slowed down as Mahipal Lomror and du Plessis fell in the next two overs. Du Plessis was dismissed for 65 off 41 balls with five fours and three sixes, while last match’s half-century-hero Veer Lomror could only contribute one run.

At one point it seemed that RCB would set a target of 210-220 runs in front of Mumbai. Karthik also added 15 runs against Kumar Kartikeya in the 18th over, but Jordan took the valuable wicket of Karthik in the 19th over, conceding just eight runs. Young bowler Akash Madhwal gave away just six runs in the last over to restrict RCB to a score of 199/6.

Behrendorff top-scored with three wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while Cameron Green (2 overs, 15 runs) and Kartikeya (4 overs, 35 runs) got one success each.

Kishan got Mumbai off to a great start by showing aggression from the very first ball. Despite the failure of captain Rohit Sharma, Kishan added 51 runs for the first wicket with him. Rohit could only manage seven runs off eight balls, but Kishan scored 42 off 21 balls with four fours and four sixes. Wanindu Hasaranga showed both of them the way to the pavilion in the fifth over.

However, RCB could get only momentary relief by taking the wicket of Kishan. Wadhera opened his arms with a six in the very next over, while Suryakumar hit a four in the very next over. Seeing the partnership flourish, skipper Du Plessis handed the ball to Hasaranga but Suryakumar and Wadhera hit him for a six each to add 15 runs in the 11th over.

Mumbai’s innings did not stop anywhere after the pair set foot on the pitch. Suryakumar increased the pace of the innings after completing his half-century off 26 balls and scored 83 runs off 35 balls with seven fours and six sixes before getting out. Suryakumar shared a 70-ball 140-run partnership with Wadhera that ended all RCB hopes of a win.

Suryakumar and Tim David were dismissed in consecutive balls in the 16th over of the innings, but Wadhera hit a six in the next over to give Mumbai the win. He remained unbeaten on 52 off 34 balls with four fours and three sixes.
