Sunil Gavaskar intriguing boys vs men analogy on India tour of West Indies
[ad_1]
Several budding stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ishaan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar were brought into the team. While some of them did well on an individual level, several stars failed including team captain Hardik Pandya. India’s great player Sunil Gavaskar has given an interesting statement on this. He said – a player can do well at the franchise level, but when it comes to playing for the country, there is a different kind of pressure.
He further said – How many times have we seen that under-19 players are not able to move even a step ahead from the boys’ tournament to the men’s competition. Yes, the boys look great playing against the boys, but when they play against the men, they suddenly realize that what looks like cake at the under-19 level, is like mud at the senior level .
The great Gavaskar further said- This is the reason why there are so many people who looked good at the boys’ level, were found to be weak at the big level. Franchise cricket is also very low on the level of technique. Gavaskar said that the T20 series loss against the West Indies should not be a disappointment for the Indian team as the Caribbean players have won the T20 World Cup twice in their history.
While consoling, he further said – Defeat to West Indies should not be disappointing. Don’t forget that they have won the ICC T20 World Cup twice and their players are match winners for the various franchises they play for in the IPL. There is no shame in losing to them in T20. However, this should be a warning. It needs to be understood that India needs to strengthen its stand.
