“When I came to know that Chennai Super Kings and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are going to do a lap of honor at Chepauk, I decided to create a special memory,” Star Sports quoted former India captain Sunil Gavaskar as saying in a release. That’s why I ran towards Mahendra Singh Dhoni to get his autograph. It was his last home match at Chepauk.
He said, ‘So I went to Mahi (Dhoni) and requested him to autograph the shirt I was wearing. Glad he accepted it. It was a very special moment for me as this player has made immense contribution to Indian cricket.
The Super Kings team is currently running at the second position in the points table and has a strong claim to make it to the IPL play-offs. But it is not yet decided whether the Dhoni-led side will return to Chepauk which is to host the qualifiers and the eliminator. Former Indian captain Gavaskar said, ‘Of course if the Super Kings qualify for the play-offs. So he will get a chance to play here but I decided to make this moment special. I was lucky that someone in the camera unit had a marker pen. That’s why I am grateful to that person too.
Along with this, Gavaskar also recalled two special moments in Indian cricket history. “Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 World Cup trophy and Mahendra Singh Dhoni hitting the winning six in the 2011 World Cup final are two cricketing moments I would love to see before I die,” he said.
