The Reliance Inter-District Multi-Day Tournament is organized by the Gujarat Cricket Association. This tournament plays an important role in identifying potential players for the Gujarat Ranji Trophy team and Under-23 team. This news report is based on matches played on April 12–13, 2024.
Surat’s senior and under-23 cricket team performed brilliantly and won against Bharuch in the second round of the Reliance Inter-District Multi-Day Tournament.
Excellent batting of the senior team:
Surat’s senior team won the toss and batted first and scored 373 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 80.3 overs. Captain Arya Desai played brilliant century innings of 129 runs and all-rounder Siddharth Vekariya played brilliant century innings of 109 runs. Opener Lakshya Kochhar also contributed 51 runs.
The performance of Bharuch bowlers was weak. Siddharth Vekaria achieved maximum success by taking 3 wickets and Siddharth Khenyi by taking 2 wickets.
On the basis of lead in the first innings, Surat won despite the match being drawn. Siddharth Vekariya was chosen man of the match for his excellent performance.
Strong performance of Under-23 team also:
Surat’s Under-23 team also performed brilliantly and won against Bharuch. Janil Dholakia played brilliant innings of 100 runs and Ahan Poddar played brilliant innings of 86 runs. Ujjwal J Bhagat took 4 wickets and Kalp Vikas Jain took 2 wickets, forcing the Bharuch batsmen to struggle. On the basis of lead in the first innings, Surat won despite the match being drawn. Janil Dholakia was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant performance. This win is an important step for the Surat teams to progress further in the tournament.
