Suryakumar needs to realize that he cannot entertain the crowd every innings: De Villiers

New Delhi. South African legend AB de Villiers has said that Suryakumar Yadav needs to realize that he cannot entertain the spectators every innings. Suryakumar had a dream run in T20 in 2022. He was the highest run scorer in T20 in 2022 with 1164 runs. His average was 46.56 and strike rate was 187.43. He scored two centuries and nine half-centuries.

He scored a brilliant century against Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I at Rajkot in early 2023 but since then there has been a sudden dip in his form. He scored a hat-trick of zero in the ODI series against Australia.

Scored 15 runs in 16 balls in Mumbai Indians’ first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023. When asked about Suryakumar’s dip in form, de Villiers advised him to go back to the side that has worked for him and played brilliant innings.

“He has to get back to the style that has worked for him over the years. He has to try and remember what my basics are and what I was doing well when I was scoring runs,” de Villiers said at the virtual media round table. He took his game to a different level and there is no harm in him taking some time off to get back to scoring after that.”

“You can’t score a hundred in 40 balls every time. It doesn’t happen every day. I learned that too when the crowd at Chinnaswamy used to expect me to score a hundred in every match,” he said.

De Villiers said, “To be honest, you cannot read every ball properly. You have to make sure that you take runs on every ball and give strike to Virat or someone else. Slowly I will get a good shot and I will play the match.” I’ll be back.”

De Villiers, who is playing the role of IPL expert for GeoCinema, advised Suryakumar to respect the situation he is in right now.

He said, “I remember very well that I also went through a bad phase in IPL and I used to get restless that I am nearing a bad form and I have to come out of it. Needs to be done. But the fact is that he should not panic and change his game plan.”(IANS)
