Suryakumar retains top spot in ICC T20 rankings

Dubai : India’s fiery batsman Suryakumar Yadav continued to top the latest T20 International rankings for men’s batsmen released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday. Suryakumar, who has been struggling with poor form for some time, is at the top with 906 points. He has a lead of more than 100 points over second-ranked Mohammad Rizwan (798) of Pakistan. Suryakumar, the only Indian batsman in the top 10, has had a stellar run in T20 Internationals in 2022. He continued to perform well against New Zealand and Sri Lanka earlier this year as well.

Former captain Virat Kohli is the next best Indian in the batsmen’s list with 15th position. He also retained his previous ranking. Among bowlers, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is the top Indian at 14th position. Experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is at 19th position with a loss of one place. India’s Hardik Pandya is second only to Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan in the list of all-rounders. Haris Rauf has overtaken Shadab Khan to become Pakistan’s top bowler with 10 wickets in three T20 Internationals. He has 906 marks. Rauf took four wickets in two consecutive matches in the ongoing T20 series against New Zealand. Rauf has gained five places and is at 11th position.

Meanwhile, Ish Sodhi (620) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (624) have also moved up in the bowling rankings. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has made a huge jump of 13 places in the Test format. He has entered the top 10 thanks to his 10-wicket haul in the first Test against Ireland. Jayasuriya has a career-best 669 points and has become Sri Lanka’s top bowler in the Test format. Spinner Ramesh Mendis (576), who took four wickets in the second innings against Ireland, has also gained three places to be in 32nd position.
