Suryakumar Yadav captain in ICC T-20 Team of the Year

Dubai: The International Cricket Council on Monday selected Indian team’s stormy batsman Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the ICC Men’s T20 Team of the Year.

The ICC has honored 11 players who performed brilliantly in the year 2023 with the ICC Team of the Year. The names of five Indian cricketers including four men and one woman are included in this list. Suryakumar Yadav made it to the ICC Men’s T-20 Team of the Year 2023 for the second consecutive year and was also made the captain of the team. He has also scored two centuries in the shortest format of the game. Suryakumar Yadav also led the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma took a break after the ODI World Cup.

Apart from Suryakumar, his teammate batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and bowlers Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh have also made it to the men’s team. Jaiswal, a left-handed opening batsman, made his T20 debut in 2023 and also scored a century in India’s gold medal-winning campaign at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.

Meanwhile, leg spinner Bishnoi ended the year as the number one bowler in the ICC T20 bowling rankings. Bishnoi was also a member of the Indian team at the Asian Games. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh impressed with solid performances against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies ahead of the 2023 Asian Games campaign.

While four men made it to the men’s team, only one Indian player made it to the eleven in the women’s team. A useful lower-order batsman, Deepti Sharma’s economical bowling figures have earned her a place in the ICC Women’s T20 Team of the Year 2023. During the Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town in February, Deepti took four wickets three times as the Indian women’s cricket team managed to reach the knockout stage of the tournament.
