Chennai: Considered one of the best players in the T20 format, Suryakumar Yadav has been dismissed on the first ball of three consecutive matches against Australia but skipper Rohit Sharma indicated that the team management is not paying too much attention to his failure in the ODI series. Suryakumar was dismissed LBW by Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc in the first two ODIs. He was given a place in the playing XI for the third and deciding match played on Wednesday but this time he was dismissed by left-arm spinner Ashton Agar.

Rohit Sharma said after India’s 21-run defeat in the third match, ‘He (Suryakumar) played only three balls in the series. I don’t know how seriously you are taking this. He faced three good balls. I don’t think it was a very good ball. He had selected the wrong shot. He should have played that ball forward. He knows better about this.

Rohit said that Suryakumar was initially supposed to bat at number five but the team management decided to field him later to face the Australian attack in the last 15-20 overs. Suryakumar came out to bat at number seven. Rohit said, ‘He plays spin very well and that’s why we didn’t bring him in the open so that he can show his fire in the last 15 to 20 overs but unfortunately he played only three balls in the series. This can happen to anyone.
