Swiss Open: Sindhu, Srikanth, Prannoy in second round, Lakshya out

Basel Switzerland. Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy advanced to the second round of the Swiss Open while Lakshya Sen made a first-round exit.
Two-time Olympic champion and defending champion Sindhu defeated Switzerland’s Janjira Stadelmann 21-9, 21-16 in 32 minutes on Wednesday night. Her next match will be against Indonesia’s daughter Kusuma Vardani.
In men’s singles, former number one Srikanth defeated China’s Wang Hong Yang in a hard-fought 21-16, 15-21, 21-18. Srikanth will take on Cheuk Yiu Lee in the second round.
In another match, fifth seed HS Prannoy defeated Shi Yu Qi of China 21-17, 19-21, 21-17 in a match that lasted an hour.
Another Indian, Mithun Manjunath defeated Joran Queeckel of Holland 21-8, 21-17. She will next face Chia Hao Lee of Chinese Taipei.
However, Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen went down 18-21 11-21 to Cheuk Yiu Lee of Hong Kong in the first round.
Meanwhile, Malvika Bansod, Aakarshi Kashyap and Kiran George suffered defeats, while N Sikki Reddy and Aarthi Sara Sunil were ousted in the first round. Reddy and Rohan Kapoor lost in the mixed doubles.
But men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty kept their medal hopes alive after beating Malaysian pair of Jin Yuan Boon and Tien Si Wong 21-15, 21-18.
