Basel. Top Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth and young player Priyanshu Rajawat have reached the quarterfinals of the BWF Swiss Open, Super 300 badminton tournament.

World number 27 Srikanth defeated number 10 Malaysian Li Ji Jia in straight sets 21-16, 21-15 in just 36 minutes.

On the other hand, Rajawat defeated world number 33 Lei Lanxi of China 21-14, 21-13 in straight games.

The 22-year-old Rajawat had faced off against world number 14 Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong in the first round. Lee was a finalist at the India Open at the beginning of the year.

Srikanth will next face Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee, who ousted Lakshya Sen by defeating him 21-17, 21-15 in straight games. Rajawat will face another shuttler from Taipei, Chou Tien Chen.

Another men’s singles shuttler Kiran George made it to the quarterfinals after a hard-fought 18-21, 22-20, 21-18 win over Alex Lanier. He will next face Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke for a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu’s campaign ended here with a loss to Japan’s Tokoma Miyazaki in the pre-quarterfinals.

Sindhu had to face defeat against the world number 27 Japanese shuttler 21-16, 19-21, 16-21 in a match that lasted one hour and 19 minutes.

This was his second consecutive defeat in the round of 16. Last week, the Indian player had to face defeat in the second round in the All England Open.
