Tamil Nadu, Railways, Odisha and Haryana gear up for semi-finals (Preview)

Amritsar . The semi-finals of the 27th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2022-23 are expected to be closely contested on Monday as all four teams – Tamil Nadu, Railways, Odisha and Haryana – gear up for the challenge.

Tamil Nadu will take on Railways while Haryana will take on Odisha in the semi-finals at the Guru Nanak Stadium. While Tamil Nadu and Odisha progressed as the top two teams from Group A, last year’s finalists Railways qualified from Group B along with Haryana.

Tamil Nadu had an excellent record in the group stage and continued their impressive run in the final round of the tournament. The team won five out of a possible five and topped their group with 15 points.

So far, Tamil Nadu has shown the ability to withstand all the pressure from its rivals. He has not conceded a single goal in this edition so far and has scored 32 times in eight matches including the group stage and the final round. After winning their maiden title in 2017-18, Tamil Nadu are serious contenders to regain the trophy.

Odisha, on the other hand, entered the final round with four wins from five matches and finished second in Group A with 12 points. He scored 13 goals and conceded only three goals in the process.

Meanwhile, Group B toppers Haryana also ended their last round campaign unbeaten with four wins and one draw.

Along with Tamil Nadu, they are the only team to remain unbeaten in the current edition. In the final round, they defeated both the finalists of the 26th edition – Manipur and Railways – which made their intentions clear.

Only one point separated Haryana from second-placed Railways, who finished the group stage of the final round with four wins and one loss. The team will look to save themselves after finishing runners-up in the last edition of the championship.(IANS)
