Tarannum Pathan keen to work with Adarsh ​​Mithali Raj and Nooshin Al Khadeer at Gujarat Giants

Ahmedabad. Experienced off-break bowler Tarannum Pathan said he is looking forward to working under his idols Mithali Raj and Nooshin Al Khadeer at the Gujarat giants when the WPL 2024 season begins on February 23.

While Nushin, under whose coaching India won the title in the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, is the bowling coach of the Giants. Mithali, India’s great batsman, is a mentor and advisor.

“I look forward to working with Nooshin Al Khadeer. He is also an off-spinner like me but I never got a chance to work with him. Tarannum has played for India ‘A’ and was selected for the national camp in 2010, but she has been a dominant bowler in the domestic circuit, with over 200 wickets to her name across all formats.

In December 2023, Tarannum was picked up by the Giants for Rs 10 lakh, which he admitted was a surprise for him. “I had lost hope. I started thinking it wouldn’t work and then my friends started sending me messages but I didn’t believe them. Then I talked to my brother, who confirmed the news. The biggest happiness for me was that I am going to play for Gujarat Giants.

He credited his father and uncle for their unwavering support, which helped him build a successful cricket career. “This is all because of the hard work and dedication put in by my father and uncle over the years. The day of the WPL 2024 player auction was a day of reckoning and Tarannum’s family was linked to the proceedings. His mother Mumtaz Bano said, “We thought he would not be selected. Then Tarannum called to tell us that Gujarat Giants had selected him. His father was very happy.”

Gujarat Giants finished last in the inaugural edition of the WPL in 2023. The team will begin its WPL 2024 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians on February 25 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
