Centurion (Uttam Hindu News)- Fast bowler Avesh Khan has been included in India’s squad for the second Test against South Africa starting on January 3 at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Meanwhile, India were fined 10 per cent of their match fee and deducted two ICC World Test Championship points for slow over-rate against South Africa in the first Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
The first match of the Test series between India and South Africa was played in Centurion. In this match, Team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma bowled two overs less. Because of this, 2 points have been deducted from Team India’s World Test Championship. Along with this, ICC has also imposed a fine of 10 percent of the match fee. Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees gave this punishment to India after falling two overs short of the target.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that Avesh will join the team as a replacement for injured Mohammed Shami. He will now look to strengthen the Indian pace attack ahead of the New Year Test in Cape Town, as the visitors now trail the two-match series 1-0. Avesh, who plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket, is currently playing for India ‘A’ in the four-day match against South Africa ‘A’ at Willowmoor Park, Benoni. In 38 first-class matches, Avesh has taken 149 wickets at an average of 22.65 and an economy rate of 3.12, which also includes taking seven five-wicket hauls.
Avesh has been selected for India in white-ball cricket. He has played 19 T20 and eight ODI matches. In the opening ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg, right-arm fast bowler Avesh gave a career-best performance of 4-27.
