After this match, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was not very happy. He exposed a major flaw not only in the Asian Games, but in Indian batting in general. There were probably two innings in this match which were noteworthy. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked Nepal’s bowlers from the very beginning, while his fellow captain Ruturaj Gaikwad did not look in form.

However, if seen, this opening pair made a partnership of 100 runs in only 55 balls. But Jaiswal was completely aggressive in the partnership, he had already scored 70 runs in 33 balls. Whereas the captain kept a strike rate of almost one run per ball. Ultimately Jaiswal scored a century in 48 balls. But Nepal made India lose three wickets within 16 runs in 18 balls. Still India scored 202 runs for four wickets. The runs scored by Rinku Singh proved to be decisive in the match.

There was huge pressure on Rinku Singh in the last overs. He scored 37 runs in 15 balls with the help of four sixes and two fours. Taking to social media after India survived one of the biggest upsets in sports, Sehwag urged India to prepare more explosive batsmen like Rinku and Suryakumar Yadav for the T20 game instead of anchor-style batsmen.

He said, ‘I think we have a lot of batsmen who play in the same gear. There is a need to develop more explosive players who can play in top gear. Especially in T20 cricket. To become a dangerous team, many more batsmen are needed in the mode of Rinku and Suryakumar Yadav. India will play its semi-final match in the Asian Games on 6 October. A win will take them to at least a silver medal in the Asian Games. Whereas on defeat, they will have to compete for the bronze medal against the losing team in the second semi-final match.
I just feel we have too many batters who play in the same gear. Need to nurture more explosive players who can play top gear, especially in T20 cricket. Many more in the Rinku and SKY mode needed to become a dangerous side.

Jaiswal broke Shubman Gill’s record
Aggressive opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal set the Asian Games stage on fire. Jaiswal was looking in great form against Nepal and he became the first Indian to score a century in the Asian Games 2023. He reached triple digit score in just 48 balls. In the process, Jaiswal also broke a record made by Shubman Gill. Earlier, Gill was the youngest player to score a century for India in T20 International cricket. Shubman Gill was 23 years and 146 days old when he scored his first T20I century for India. On the other hand, Jaiswal completed his century at the age of 21 years, 8 months and 13 days.
