Lucknow, 04 May (Hindustan Times). Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra on Thursday reviewed the preparations for the Khelo India University Games starting from May 25 by on-site inspection. He did a physical inspection of the football ground and athletics ground at Guru Govind Singh Sports College and Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium.

The Chief Secretary today inaugurated selected hostels and B.B.D. Also inspected the university. During the inspection, the Chief Secretary has given instructions to complete all the works in each case by May 17. He said that the players should not face any kind of inconvenience. Proper arrangements for movement, food and stay of the players should be ensured well in time. During the event, the cleaning system at the venue should be tight.

Chief Minister Yogi will flag off the Games torch relay on Friday

The Chief Secretary said that with the help of the Forest Department, tree plantation should be done on the empty space in front of the athletics ground and the pre-built structure in front of the ground should be covered, as well as the surrounding areas should also be cleaned. All the works of athletics ground track should be completed by May 15, 2023. He also asked for the cutting of the grass of the football ground and cleaning of the area around it.

At the time of inspection, Additional Chief Secretary Sports Navneet Sehgal, Director Sports, Principal Guru Govind Singh Sports College, Managing Director, UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd. along with sports department, Nirman Nigam and other officials of related departments were present.

It is noteworthy that from May 25, Khelo India University Games are going to be organized in four cities of the state. The event will begin with a grand opening ceremony on May 25 at the BBD University Cricket Ground in Lucknow. It will conclude on June 3 at BHU Varanasi.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the logo, mascot, anthem and jersey of the Khelo India University Games on Friday. Union Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and UP Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav will be present at the function to be held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi and Anurag Thakur will also flag off the torch relay on this occasion. For the next 20 days, four torches will travel in all the districts of Uttar Pradesh and this rally will be welcomed through various cultural programs in each district.
