He took 216 wickets in the longest format of the game, including 16 four-wicket hauls and seven five-wicket hauls, at an average of 28.14. The Bulawayo-born player has also excelled with the ball in the ODI format, taking 239 wickets at an average of 29.82. He took four wickets seven times and five wickets once (5/32) in ODI career.
The former Zimbabwe skipper was also quite capable with the bat, scoring 1990 runs in Test cricket and 2943 runs in the 50-over format. During his Test career, Streak scored one century and 11 half-centuries for his country, while in ODIs he scored 13 half-centuries.
The streak was towering as a player and apart from winning matches for his country, he also created records that still stand today. He is still the only Zimbabwean player to have achieved the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests, and 2000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs.
The streak’s condition worsened in May and he was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment. Some of his colleagues posted the news of his death on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). Former Zimbabwe fast bowler Henry Olanga shared the news on Twitter and paid tribute to Streak. Heath Streak was one of the greatest cricketers not only of Zimbabwe but of the entire world.
