Hyderabad | Hyderabad head coach Brian Lara admitted that the match was in their hands but batting errors cost the team their chances after they lost their IPL match by five runs to Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday night.
Chasing a target of 172 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad looked to be in a strong position for a while thanks to a 47-ball 70 partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram.
But the pair’s dismissal and Varun Chakravarthy’s superb bowling helped Hyderabad manage to manage 166/8 and lose their sixth match in a row.
“We had every chance to win but we let it slip away. All I can say is that they didn’t beat us, we lost the match,” Lara said at the post-match press conference.
“We are trying to have a winning combination, especially in the bowling department. They have kept us in check in every match but our batsmen have let us down,” he added.
Lara said that losing quick wickets early on and not building crucial partnerships is hurting Hyderabad and their path to the playoffs is getting tougher.
Lara also said that Harry Brook’s dismissal at zero is also hurting the team. Brook has not done much since scoring a century against Kolkata at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in April and has been dismissed for a duck in the second match in a row. He said that Brook’s improvement in form would definitely benefit the team.
Hyderabad’s next match will be against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday evening.
