Sharing a letter on Twitter, Sakshi Malik said, ‘You all saw what happened on 28 May. How did the police treat us? How brutally we were arrested. We were doing a peaceful movement. The place of our agitation was also vandalized by the police and snatched away from us and the next day FIR was registered against us in serious cases. He further said, ‘Have women wrestlers committed any crime by seeking justice for the sexual harassment meted out to them. The police and the system are treating us like criminals, while the oppressor is cracking down on us in open meetings.’
Sakshi Malik further wrote in the letter, ‘Now it seems that these medals decorated around our neck have no meaning left. We were feeling death just by thinking of his return, but what to live even after compromising with our self respect. We don’t need these medals anymore because by wearing them, this fast whitening system only promotes itself by making us a mask, and then always exploits. If we speak against that exploitation, he prepares to put us in jail.
Female wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won the bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics, further said, ‘Medals are our life, our soul. After they are washed away in the Ganges, our life will also have no meaning. That’s why we will sit on fast unto death at India Gate. Today at 6 pm, we will float our medals in the Ganges in Haridwar.
