Melbourne. Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley has revealed that he is supportive of more women’s Test matches in the future. She said that she also has thoughts about a three-match women’s Test series in the future.
Hockley’s statement came after Australia played its only Test in India after a gap of 40 years earlier this month with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led hosts winning by eight wickets in the four-day match at the Wankhede Stadium. Furthermore, Australia captain Alyssa Healy also expressed her desire to play more red-ball cricket at the international level.
“I’ve been a keen supporter of all format series,” Hockley said on SEN Radio. “I’m delighted we’ve got three series with South Africa in a short space of time. Obviously the Ashes will be back next Australian summer. I’m looking forward to more Test cricket. “I’m a big fan of playing. I think it gives it great context as part of a multi-format series.”
Women’s Test cricket has usually been part of multi-format series including white-ball games. However, India’s victory over Australia in the only Test was a big moment.
Australia are next scheduled to play South Africa at the WACA in Perth in mid-February 2024.
It was great to watch test matches in India. A good contest where you could see both sides giving each other a tough fight.
Hockley said, “We will continue to advocate for more Test cricket as part of multi-format and maybe in the future we will make a case for a major three-Test series.”
