A three-time Olympic gold medallist, Major Dhyan Chand was part of the Indian hockey team that won gold medals in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 editions of the Olympics. In his 185 matches for the country, he scored 570 goals for India.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had earlier expressed hope that Indian sportspersons would excel in the Asian Games starting on September 23 in Hangzhou, China. India will have 634 athletes participating in the Asian Games, which will be its largest ever contingent in the history of these games.
Thakur said at the National Institute of Sports – For the last few years, Indian players have been performing excellently in all sports and are increasing India’s pride at the world level. I am sure India will excel in the upcoming Asian Games as well. The Sports Minister met the players and coaches participating in the Asian Games and inquired about their preparations. During this, Thakur also inaugurated several sports development projects at the National Institute of Sports.
