Colombo. Sri Lankan off-spinner Mahesh Theekshana has been ruled out of Sunday’s Asia Cup final against India with a hamstring injury, while the visitors have used off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar as cover for left-arm spin all-rounder Axar Patel. Has called.

Theekshana had strained his right hamstring during the Super Four match against Pakistan and staggered off the field after completing his quota of overs. The Sri Lankan selectors have included Sahan Arachige in the squad in place of Theekshana.

“A scan was carried out and a muscle injury was confirmed,” a statement from the tournament said. Theekshana will return to the High Performance Center to begin rehabilitation work.”

On the other hand, a report in Cricbuzz said that Washington will join the Indian team ahead of the Asia Cup title clash due to Axar’s problem after the Super Four match against Bangladesh on Friday.

Axar suffered injuries to his left wrist, elbow and had to be treated for a thigh problem while scoring 42 with the bat, although his efforts could not translate into an Indian win at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Sundar is part of the Indian team for the Asian Games and is currently in Bengaluru. After the Asia Cup final, they are expected to rejoin the Asian Games camp which runs till September 23 before the competition is held in Hangzhou, China. He last played an ODI against New Zealand at home in January this year, but missed out on a place in the 15-man World Cup squad.
