Johannesburg. Alzarri Joseph bowled brilliantly as West Indies beat South Africa by seven runs in the deciding third and final T20I at the Wanderers Stadium here. Joseph took five wickets for 40 runs in four overs. At the same time, Joseph was given the title of ‘Man of the Match’ in view of the excellent figures. West Indies, playing the first innings, scored 220 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs and gave South Africa a target of 221 runs to win.
Chasing the target of 221 runs, the start of the South African team was not good. There was only a 32-run partnership for the first wicket, in which Quinton De Kock scored 21 runs and caught Joseph’s ball. He was followed by Riley Rossouw with Reeza Hendricks leading off the inning. There was an 80-run partnership between the two batsmen.
Rossouw missed his half-century and was caught by Charles in the bowler’s over after scoring 42 runs. After him, dashing batsman David Miller came to the crease. But he did not stay at the crease for long and returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs. After him, Hendrix also got caught by Joseph’s ball. However, he played a brilliant inning during this period and scored 83 runs, which included 11 fours and 2 sixes.
Bowler Joseph took five wickets, including the wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Wayne Parnell. At the same time, captain Aiden Markram remained unbeaten after scoring 35 runs.
In the early stages, it looked like South Africa would win the match comfortably, but the West Indies bowlers put up a brilliant display to restrict South Africa to 213 for six in 20 overs.(IANS)
