Hospice (Uttam Hindu News): Veteran England fast bowler James Anderson became the first fast bowler to take 700 Test wickets on the third day of the fifth match against India at HPCA on Saturday. The legendary fast bowler became the third man to achieve the feat in the longest format of the game after Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and leg spinner Shane Warne (708).
With 698 wickets to his credit ahead of the fifth Test in Dharamsala, Anderson’s start with the ball was nothing short of ideal as the veteran fast bowler got the better of young Indian batsman Shubman Gill to claim his 699th wicket.
Anderson achieved this feat by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav on the third day of the fifth Test against India on Saturday. Anderson draws an off-cutter to drive Kuldeep. The ball took the outside edge and Ben Fox did the rest behind the stumps.
Since both Warne and Muralitharan were under 40 when they became members of the elite 700-wicket club, the 41-year-old Anderson is the oldest bowler to reach the milestone.
Meanwhile, Warne was the man who started this elite club by taking the wicket of Andrew Strauss in the Boxing Day Test against England on 26 December 2006. Muralitharan joined him in the list a year later, meanwhile, it took almost 17 years for any player to be included in this list.
