Neeraj participated in the Under-20 World Championship title held in 2016. Neeraj threw the javelin up to 86.48m in that title match, which was the mark of 84.69m set by Zigismunds Sirmais. A new Under-20 world record was also created by defeating.
Gold in CWG held in 2018
Neeraj won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games held in 2018. He became the first Indian to get a medal in javelin throw in CWG. His effort also set a national record in those days. He also became the fourth Indian to win the athletics title at the Games after Milkha Singh (1958), Krishna Poonia (2010) and Vikas Gowda (2014).
Gold in Asian Games held in Jakarta in 2018
Neeraj became the first Indian javelin thrower to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta with an effort of 88.06m. His effort also created a national record at that time. Prior to Neeraj, Gurtej Singh was the only male javelin thrower from the country to have won a bronze medal at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.

With a confident opening effort, Neeraj threw the javelin to a long distance of 89.08 metres. This performance also marked the final men’s javelin throw event in the series. Zurich Final Diamond League Champion to be crowned in September 2022
Neeraj achieved yet another remarkable feat, further cementing his credentials as the first Indian athlete to lift the Diamond League trophy after the Zurich Diamond League 2022 Final. The Indian veteran produced a brilliant throw of 88.44m to win the title. He got the win over Tokyo 2020 silver medalist and defending 2016 champion Jacob Wadledge. Germany’s Julian Weber finished third with a throw of 83.73 metres.
Silver medal at the World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022
Neeraj’s legacy continues to grow as the star javelin thrower scripted history by winning a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon, USA. He made the final with an effort of 88.39m in the qualification round, but failed in the medal round with an effort of 88.13m. His best throw earned him a silver medal. Neeraj also became the first Indian in history to win a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships. With his effort India won its first medal in 19 years, and only the second in history. The previous medal was won by long jumper Anju Bobby George, who won a bronze in Paris in 2003.
