New Delhi: Tilak Verma has done exceptionally well for India in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. Since making his international debut in the first T20 last week, Tilak has registered scores of 39, 51 and 49* in three matches – he was the top scorer in the first two matches. Tilak’s fearless play in his first T20 earned him praise. Apart from this, he played an amazing half-century in the second T20. Apart from this, his stormy batting in the third match won the hearts of the fans as well as his teammates.

Appropriately, Tilak has also benefited from his impressive performance in the rankings, as he has become the newest player in the T20 rankings. As per the new ICC T20 rankings released on Wednesday, Tilak is ranked 46th with 503 points. Interestingly, he is already ahead of some T20 regulars in the Indian team including skipper Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill.

Among Indian players, Tilak is the fifth highest-ranked batsman in the shortest format, with Suryakumar Yadav holding the top spot. Virat Kohli, who is yet to play a single T20 this year, is ranked 19th while KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are both ranked 33rd and 34th respectively. Essentially, Tilak Verma is currently the second highest ranked Indian batsman in India’s T20 squad.

However, a string of consistent batting performances took its toll on other players in the rankings, with Shubman suffering a drop of 11 places to be placed 68th with 435 points. Meanwhile, Ishan is ranked 54th and just one point behind Hardik Pandya (490) who is ranked 53rd.
