Tilottama Sen wins bronze in women’s air rifle

New Delhi | India’s Tilottama Sen won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle, competing in the final medal event on the third day of the ongoing ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol competition in Cairo, Egypt. Seonaid McIntosh of Great Britain won the gold medal by defeating Olympic champion Nina Kristen of Switzerland 16–8 in the decider. Tilottama finished the top eight ranking round with a score of 262.0, missing out on the gold medal match by the narrowest possible margin of 0.1. His medal was India’s fifth in the competition, the second bronze to add to the three golds.
The Briton was in her stride right from the qualification round. She topped the 95-strong field with a score of 634.0 after 60 shots. Tilottama, who also shot the second qualification relay, finished second with a score of 632.7. Joining her in the top eight are two other Indians – Ramita, another shooter, shot 630.6 to secure the sixth qualifying spot. The winner of the air rifle mixed team event was Narmada Nitin, who finished eighth and last with a .
While Narmada finished seventh, both Tilottama and Ramita fought valiantly to match for a shot at the title round with veteran Seonaid and women’s 3P Olympic champion Neena. However, both the pair lost and Ramita finished fourth and Tilottama third.
Overall, it was another profitable day for India, with Rudraksh Patil winning gold in the first men’s air rifle. India topped the medal tally with three gold medals.
