‘Tops’ athletes to participate in Khelo India Youth Games

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): In the Khelo India Youth Games starting from January 30 in Madhya Pradesh, 15 athletes of the Government of India’s ‘Target Olympic Podium Scheme’ (TOPS) will encourage budding athletes on the field.
The Sports Authority of India (Sai) issued a release on Saturday saying that athletes who have already achieved international achievements under TOPS will motivate grassroots athletes to move forward here.
These players include Vishal Changmai, Manjiri Alone, Apeksha Fernandes, Akanksha Vyavahe from Maharashtra, Riddhi, Unnati Hooda, Shiv Narwal, Tejaswani, Nischal from Haryana, Payas Jain from Delhi and Ridhima Virendrakumar and Yashaswini Ghorpade from Karnataka, among others. .
It was informed in the release that about six thousand athletes will participate in the competition to be held in New Delhi besides Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Mandla, Khargone (Maheshwar) and Balaghat of Madhya Pradesh. There will be a total of 27 disciplines in the Youth Games. For the first time in the history of these Games, water sports are being included. Apart from this, water sports like canoe slalom, kayaking, canoeing and rowing will also take place.
The main objective of TOPS is to provide financial assistance and other support to athletes to win medals in Olympics and other international sporting events. TOPS was launched in the year 2020 targeting children in the age group of 10 to 12 years to groom Olympic winners in 2028.
