New Delhi | Amid the ongoing tussle between wrestlers and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Olympian Vinesh Phogat took to Twitter to share a cryptic post. Vinesh, who has accused Brij Bhushan Sharan of harassing women wrestlers, tweeted, “Truth may disturb, but not defeat.”
In another tweet, he said, “If the destination is big, keep your spirits up.”
Vinesh’s tweet comes a day after reports claimed that a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court by the WFI chief against several wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia.
However, Sharan Singh clarified in a tweet that “No petition has been submitted by me or any authorized person associated with me against the Delhi government, the protesting wrestlers and news channels. I have not approached any lawyer, law agency or other No one is authorized.”
Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and several other wrestlers protested against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on 18 January. The protesting wrestlers have accused the WFI of arbitrariness, mismanagement, maladministration and bias in selection by its coaches and president as well as harassment of wrestlers.
Angry wrestlers called off their protest after a long meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday night and assurance from the government to address their grievances.
The ministry has suspended all ongoing activities of the federation and appointed a monitoring committee to handle the day-to-day functioning.
The committee will look into the allegations of sexual harassment and corruption against WFI chief Sharan Singh. The WFI chief will also step down till the probe is over.(IANS)
