Buenos Aires (Argentina). France crashed out of the U-20 World Cup football competition despite a 3–1 win over Honduras in their final match of the group stage.
France had lost their first two matches in Group F, failing to make it to the knockout stage. The Gambia and South Korea were able to advance from this group. France needed one more goal to finish among the best four teams in third place. This would have put them through to the last 16 on better goal difference and Tunisia would have been eliminated.
The match between Gambia and South Korea in Group F ended in a goalless draw. African team Gambia will face Uruguay in the next round, while Asian team South Korea will face Ecuador. Meanwhile, England topped Group E after a goalless draw against Iraq. Uruguay beat Tunisia 1–0 to take second place.
France’s poor performance saw Tunisia progress to the next round where they will face Brazil. England will face Italy in the last 16 on Wednesday.
