A two-day Sports Science Conclave organized by the National Center for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR) in collaboration with Khelo India to showcase the commitment towards inclusivity and progress in sports, to foster discussions and formulate strategies for the success of Khelo India Para Games. At the forefront of this important initiative is Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur. Sports Science Conclave was inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Stadium on Wednesday. The first day discussed creating a testament to India’s evolving sporting landscape, transcending traditional boundaries by focusing on sporting events specifically for athletes with disabilities. Thakur has advocated inclusivity and equal opportunities for para athletes.

Anurag Thakur said, “It is really encouraging to see the NCSSR organizing important conferences. At these conferences stakeholders come together to shape the trajectory of both able-bodied and para athletes. An inclusive approach is prevalent, in which all athletes Equal facilities and respect are provided, which minimizes any perceived discrimination.

Thakur further added, “The theme of the Conclave, ‘Limitless Horizons’, resonates deeply with the growing spirit of ‘Hauslo ki Udaan’. It is a dedicated platform to recognize and discuss the sports science for disabled and para athletes, which is set to propel India forward in the field of sports. The amalgamation of Khelo India Para Games with Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games reflects the visionary vision of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reaffirms his commitment towards inclusivity and equity in sports.”

“Additionally, I am happy to share that under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), 49 para athletes receive comprehensive support including accommodation, food and training, which is covered by the Government of India.”

The conclave was attended by Dr. Deepa Malik (President of Paralympic Committee of India), Ankur Dhama (long distance para runner), Bhavana Patel (Para table tennis athlete), VK Dabbas (Para swimming coach), Dr. Pierre Beauchamp (HPD NRAI), Dr. Isha Joshi (Sports Physiotherapist), and Dr. Amey Kagali (Sports Medicine) graced the occasion with their participation on the first day of the Sports Science Conclave.

One of the central themes of the conclave – ‘Unlimited Horizons: Sports Science for Peak Performance’, revolves around leveraging sports science as a catalyst to enhance performance and ensure holistic development. The conclave also carefully discussed training methods, cutting-edge technologies, scientific advancements tailored to the specific needs of para athletes.

Additionally, the opening day of the Conclave saw panel discussions on topics such as Para Sports and Sports Science: Link to Success and understanding the psychological needs of Para athletes, including an overview of classification in Para sports, knowledge and importance in Para sports, technical and scientific support And lectures were also held on various topics like Sports Governance in Para Sports.

The first Khelo India Para Games is being organized at three venues in New Delhi from 10 to 17 December. About 1,400 athletes are participating in the games. These athletes are participating in seven sports – athletics, shooting, archery, football, badminton, table tennis and power lifting.
