New Delhi: Harbhajan Singh has made an entry to calm the ruckus over KL Rahul’s poor performance in the second season of the ICC World Test Championship. With a strong statement, he has asked to stop the ongoing social war on KL Rahul. After a flop in the opening two matches of the high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy, KL Rahul has been named in the squad for the last two matches as well. A fierce debate was seen on Twitter between former cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Akash Chopra regarding this.

Despite his poor performance, Rahul was retained in the Indian team for the third and fourth Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Rahul managed to retain his place in the team but the star batsman was dropped as India’s vice-captain in the longest format. There is also talk of India replacing Shubman Gill for the upcoming two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore and Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has demanded Rahul’s ouster from the team, while former India opener Aakash Chopra has come out in support of the under-fire batsman amid the Australia series. Meanwhile, Harbhajan tweeted- Can we leave Rahul alone? He has not committed any crime. He is still a top player. He will come back strong. We all go through times like this in international cricket. He is not the first and not the last. So please respect the fact that he is our own player and have faith.
Harbhajan’s tweet comes at a time when former India pacer Prasad has questioned Rahul’s selection several times on Twitter. Former Indian cricketers Prasad and Chopra are also at loggerheads over the decline of Rahul’s batting in Test cricket. Prasad on Tuesday declined Chopra’s invitation to have a live chat on Rahul’s selection.

Rahul averaged only 17.12 in eight innings last year. The 30-year-old captained India in Rohit’s absence during the Bangladesh series. The Indian opener scored an embarrassing 17 and 1 in the second Test. However, India still managed to win by 6 wickets in Delhi. In 47 Tests, Rahul scored 2642 runs for India at an average of 33.44.
