Bengaluru: RCB has registered its first win in IPL 2024. This team won by four wickets over Punjab Kings on Monday, in which Virat Kohli played the match-winning inning of 77 runs. After the match, he also talked openly about his two-month break. Virat Kohli was with his wife Anushka at the birth of their second child (Akay). Therefore, he had to take a break from cricket for about two months.

Virat revealed how he enjoyed not being treated like a celebrity during this hiatus. After opting out of India’s home Test series against England to spend some time with his family, Virat Kohli returned to the field through IPL 2024. After suffering a defeat in the first match of the season against Chennai Super Kings, RCB opened their account in IPL 2024 with a win against Punjab on Monday.

Virat said, ‘We were not in the country. We were at a place where people were not recognizing us. Just spent time together as a family for two months and felt normal. It was a good experience for me and for us as a family. I couldn’t be more grateful to God for the opportunity I got to spend time with my family.

‘it was beautiful. It is a wonderful experience to walk on the streets as a common man and watch people go about their daily lives. Kohli showed his dominance by hitting 11 fours and two sixes during his brilliant innings of 77 runs on 49 balls. Dinesh Karthik (28 not out on 10 balls) and impact player Mahipal Lomror (17 not out on 8 balls) scored 48 runs on 18 balls. RCB’s victory was confirmed by a partnership of runs.

Virat was named Player of the Match for his brilliant innings and also won the Orange Cap for topping the list of highest run-scorers of the season. Kohli said, ‘Don’t get too excited, it is just two matches. I know what it (orange cap) means.

The charismatic batsman, however, expressed disappointment at not being able to finish the match. In T20, I am opening, I try to give fast starts. But when wickets start falling, you also have to understand the conditions you are playing on. Kohli said, ‘To play the right shots… I am very disappointed not to finish the game in the end, but it is not a bad start to play and return to the tournament after two months.’ India need to finalize a squad of 15 players before the World Cup starting on June 1 and Kohli will continue to work hard to ensure that he progresses in the shortest format.
