Virender Sehwag Prithvi Shaw Shubman Gill IPL 2023

New Delhi: IPA 2023 has not been anything special for Prithvi Shaw. He definitely scored a half-century against Punjab Kings in a destructive manner, but he has been constantly in and out of the team. Ricky Ponting is the coach of Delhi Capitals and despite his guidance, talent like Prithvi Shaw was seen sitting in the dugout in many matches. Apart from his U-19 teammate Shubman Gill, Prithvi is believed to have lagged behind Ruturaj Gaikwad and junior Yashasvi Jaiswal for the national team. Now the great Indian opener Virender Sehwag made a big statement about Prithvi Shaw.Prithvi hit a blistering fifty in Delhi Capitals’ impressive win over Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. Shaw played an important role in Delhi’s victory by playing a stormy inning of 54 runs in 38 balls. Talking about Shaw, former Delhi captain Sehwag talked about his interactions with the Indian opener. The former Indian batsman also shared an interesting anecdote about meeting legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar during the 2003-2004 season.

He told in a conversation with Cricbuzz – He (Prithvi Shaw) shot an ad with me. Shubman Gill was also there. None of them talked about cricket even once. We stayed there for 6 hours. If you want to talk to someone, you have to contact them. When I was new in the team, I wanted to talk to Sunny bhai (Gavaskar). I told John Wright that ‘I am still a new player, I don’t know if Sunny bhai will meet me or not’, but you should organize that meeting.

Sehwag further said- Wright hosted a dinner for me in 2003-04 and I also said that my teammate Aakash Chopra (fellow opener) would also come so that we could talk about batting. So he came and ate with us. So, you have to make that effort. Sunil Gavaskar Sehwag or Chopra will not try to talk to you. You have to request them.

He said- If Shaw has given such a request then I am sure someone will… He is playing for Delhi, so if you want to talk then request him to the COO of DC. No matter how talented you are in cricket. If you are not mentally fit, if you are not mentally fit or don’t tune your mind then nothing can be done.
