Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga: Sri Lankan star all-rounder Vanindu Hasaranga Has announced his retirement from Test cricket. At the age of just 26, Hasaranga has surprised everyone by deciding to quit Test cricket. Due to the focus in white ball cricket, he decided to leave the longest format of the game. He has also informed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board about his decision in this regard.
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said in a release on Tuesday, 15 August, “We will accept his decision and we are confident that Hasaranga will be an integral part of our limited-overs program going forward.”
Hasaranga has so far played only four Test matches in his career, in which he has scored 196 runs and taken 4 wickets. He made his Test debut in December 2020 against South Africa. On the other hand, Hasaranga played the last Test against Bangladesh in April 2021.
Wanindu Hasaranga, who could not do anything special in red ball cricket, has managed to spread his fire in white ball cricket. He has been the number one bowler of T20 International. At present, his ICC T20 International ranking is at number 3.
In the 58 T20 Internationals played so far, Hasaranga has made 91 batsmen his victims at an average of 15.8. During this, he has spent runs with an economy of just 6.89. He made his T20 International debut against New Zealand in September 2019.
Apart from this, Hasaranga has also impressed a lot with his bowling in ODIs. Hasaranga, who made his ODI debut in July 2017, has so far played 48 ODIs, taking 67 wickets at an average of 28.78. During this, he has spent runs with an economy of 5.08.
