Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann believes veteran batsman David Warner should be in the squad for the Ashes despite his poor form and the opener can make an impact if sent down the order. Australia are scheduled to tour England for the Ashes in June this year and Warner’s poor form has raised questions about his place in the team.
Warner has not been able to perform well in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against India. He scored another 10 runs in the first Test match at Nagpur. After this, he was able to score only 15 runs in the first innings in the Delhi Test match. He returned home after this due to an elbow injury. Warner never scored a century in the 25 Test innings he played in England. He has been able to score only one half-century in the last 15 innings in Test matches.
Lehmann told Sen Radio, “If David Warner is in form then he should be in the team. The issue for me is that he has toured England three times and never scored a century. Should do In such a situation, he can destroy his bowling.
