Wrestling camp from 9th February in Sonipat and Patiala
National wrestling camp for male and female wrestlers will start from February 9 in Sonipat and Patiala respectively. The ad-hoc committee constituted by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the conduct of wrestling gave this information on Monday. In view of the Asian Olympic qualifying and World qualifying tournaments, the camps will start immediately after the conclusion of the Senior National Championships in Jaipur on February 5.
Indian Wushu Association President Bhupender Singh Bajwa is the chairman of the ad-hoc committee.

After the Sanjay Singh-led Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was suspended within three days of the elections, the ad-hoc committee is taking important decisions related to wrestling. Bajwa said in the statement, ‘A national coaching camp will be organized after the conclusion of the Senior National Championship. The men’s camp (Greco Roman and Freestyle) will be held at SAI NRC Sonipat while the women’s camp will be held at SAI NSNIS, Patiala.
The camp will run till 2024 Paris Olympics
In the national camp, wrestlers will participate in 30 weight categories in free style, Greco-Roman and women’s category. The Senior National Championship is being organized by the Railway Sports Promotion Board from February 2 to 5. Bajwa said, ‘The camp will run till the 2024 Paris Olympics and its main objective will be to train the wrestlers for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament.’ He said, ‘These tournaments include the 2024 Asian Qualification Tournament to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 19 to 21 April and the World Qualification Tournament to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 9 to 12 May 2024.’
Wrestlers will get time for Senior Asian Championship
Through the national camp, wrestlers will also get a chance to prepare for the Senior Asian Championship to be held in Bishkek from 11 to 16 April. National camps across age groups were affected for most of last year due to the protests by the country’s top wrestlers, led by Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and World Championship medalist Vinesh Phogat, against former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Top wrestlers had accused Brij Bhushan of alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers.
