New Delhi . Indian jiu-jitsu fighter Siddharth Singh has expressed his determination to win a medal at the upcoming Asian Games, despite facing limited support for the budding sport in India.

Siddharth emphasized that the Indian team is making every effort to excel and will leave no stone unturned to represent the sport for the first time in the Asian Games. Additionally, he shared his excitement about competing in China for the first time.

Last week, Siddharth won his 10th national level Jiu Jitsu title in Haldwani. The National Games served as the qualifying tournament for the Asian Games, which will be held in China from September 23 to October 8 this year.

Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting and submission holds.

“India obviously wanted to send a strong team. That’s why they organized these trials to find out who are the best champions in each weight category,” Siddhartha told IANS. There were four weight categories. I am going in 69kg as the winner of that weight category in the Nationals.

Accepting the challenge of facing Hundred Fighter, Siddharth also expressed his excitement for the upcoming competition in China. He said it would be an uphill task, but reaffirmed his commitment to give his all to come out on top.

“Actually, I stopped competing in India, I was mainly going out and competing in the World Championships or the Asian Continental Championships. So I wasn’t really training for this tournament. But then The Jiu Jitsu Association of India said they are conducting trials for the Asian Games and have invited all former champions from the past few years to compete for the qualification.

Asked about the training and preparations for the Asiad, Siddharth said the federation has assured that the team will be sent to a foreign location for a training camp.

“We spoke to Vinay Kumar Joshi, the president of the Jiu Jitsu Association, and he assured us that the team would be sent for a training camp somewhere abroad. I don’t know where. He asked me for some recommendations, so I gave him some. Where should the team go. But I hope as we get closer to the tournament, the team will really need that experience.

He concluded, “We have a very young team, most of the guys have never been outside India to compete. I really think the team needs to go abroad, train with international fighters, with international coaches. The training will benefit us a lot. I really hope they can find us a good place to go and train.
