Commonwealth Games gold medalist weightlifter Achint Shiuli was caught entering the women’s hostel at NIS Patiala at night, after which he has been thrown out of the camp organized for the preparation of Paris Olympics. This incident happened on Thursday night. 22 year old Achint, who had entered the men’s 73 kg category, was caught by the security personnel and his video was also made.

An official of the Indian Weightlifting Federation said, “Such indiscipline will not be tolerated.” Achint was asked to leave the camp immediately. Sports Authority of India (SAI) and NIS Patiala Executive Director Vineet Kumar were immediately informed about this. Due to the presence of video evidence, SAI did not constitute an investigation panel. “The video has been sent to NIS Patiala executive director Vineet Kumar and the SAI headquarters in Delhi,” a SAI source said. The Weightlifting Federation has been asked to remove Achint from the camp.

Achint won the gold medal with a new record in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. There are separate hostels for boys and girls in Patiala. Presently the female boxer, athlete and wrestler is in NIS Patiala. The weightlifting federation had earlier also removed Commonwealth and Youth Olympic champion Jeremy Lalrinnuga from the national camp for indiscipline. With this, Achint’s hopes of qualifying for the Olympics also ended as he would not be able to play the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand this month, which was mandatory for Paris Olympic qualification.

AndHe is currently ranked 27th in the Olympic qualification race and could have gone to the Paris Olympics through the subcontinental quota. So far, Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (49 kg) and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Bindiarani Devi are in the race for the Paris Olympics. Both will play the tournament in Phuket.
