WFI chief Sanjay Singh said: Will talk to the government, will take legal advice on the suspension of the panel.

New Delhi . Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s close aide Sanjay Singh, whose election as the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president has taken another storm in Indian sports, has claimed that he will seek legal advice against it. A few days ago the Sports Ministry had suspended his panel.

The Sports Ministry had suspended the panel because they had hastily announced that the Under-15 and Under-12 women’s national championships would be held in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. He said he would talk to the central government and seek legal advice.

Singh, a close aide of Brij Bhushan, accused of sexually harassing young wrestlers, claimed that the decision to hold the Under-15 and Under-20 national competitions was taken to ensure that the future of young wrestlers is not ruined.

While suspending the panel, the Union Sports Ministry had termed the decision as “hasty” and said it was taken “without following the provisions of the WFI constitution”.

“We will first talk to the government and if that doesn’t work, I will seek legal advice to save our federation,” Singh told a section of the media in Varanasi. The allegation is that we have hurriedly decided to organize the nationals. “But the decision was taken after the quorum requirements were met. The Annual General Meeting was held and two representatives from each state were present for voting.”

Faced with criticism, the WFI chief said the meeting was adjourned after the elections and later continued in a hotel.

He was quoted by NDTV as saying, “The representatives of all the states decided that if the national championships are not held in this calendar year, the future of the wrestlers will be ruined. The certificates they get will be used for admissions and jobs. Let’s do it for, and that’s why this decision was taken.”

On the controversy over choosing Nandini Nagar in Gonda district, the stronghold of former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, he claimed that the town has six mats which are necessary for such an event.
