WFI Election: Four contenders in the race for the post of President, 18 people of Brij Bhushan faction also filed nominations

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) outgoing president of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Four candidates, including Uttar Pradesh’s Sanjay Singh, a close aide, on Monday filed nominations for the post of WFI president at the Olympic Bhawan here. Chandigarh wrestling unit’s Darshan Lal from the Brij Bhushan faction filed nomination for the post of general secretary, while SP Deswal of Uttarakhand will contest for the post of treasurer. The Brij Bhushan faction has claimed the support of 22 out of 25 state units and after filing nominations expressed “confidence” that they would win all 15 posts in the WFI elections on August 12.

On a busy day, a convoy of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh faction’s nominees and supporters arrived at the Olympic Bhavan with the ‘blessings’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party leader. These people filed their nominations before the returning officer of the WFI elections, Mahesh Mittal Kumar, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is August 7.

Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar said, ‘There are four candidates for the post of Speaker. Three candidates are in the fray for the post of senior vice president, six for vice president, three for general secretary, two for treasurer, three for joint secretary and nine for executive members. 30 people have filed nominations for 15 posts. 18 supporters of Brij Bhushan filed nomination
The only woman candidate in the list of WFI Executive Committee members is Anita Sheoran representing Odisha. Anita is one of the witnesses in the sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan. Brij Bhushan faction has filed 18 nominations for 15 posts of WFI. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Brij Bhushan on Monday held another round of meeting at a five-star hotel after which the convoy of his faction’s candidates and supporters reached the Olympic Bhavan first in the afternoon.
Only woman Anita filed nomination
With less than 45 minutes left for the filing of nominations to end and the Brij Bhushan faction had completed its formalities, Anita, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) secretary Prem Chand Lochab (representative of Gujarat), Dushyant Sharma (J&K unit) and some others arrived and after filing nominations went back without talking to the media. Brij Bhushan, who has been meeting representatives of state units for the last two days to prepare a list of ‘unanimous candidates’, did not accompany the candidates to the Olympic Bhavan.
Brijbhushan’s son-in-law is not fighting
Brij Bhushan’s son-in-law Vishal Singh (President of Bihar Wrestling Federation) accompanied the candidates to help them file their nominations. He is not presenting candidacy for any post. Vishal said, ’18 nominations have been filed from our side. Our candidate for the post of President is Sanjay Kumar Singh. We have filed nominations for the post of three vice presidents. Brij Bhushan not included in the nomination

22 states support Brijbhushan
In the morning, Brij Bhushan reiterated that no member of his family would contest the WFI elections. His son Karan has already pulled out of the race, while son-in-law Vishal also said on Sunday that he would not be contesting for any post. Before the candidates and supporters left for Olympic Bhawan, Brij Bhushan said at his residence, ‘Today is the last day of nomination, members of 22 state associations were here and they came to meet me and now they are going to file their nominations. Brijbhushan is not eligible to contest elections
