Bajrang Punia had returned his Padma Shri in protest against the election of Sanjay Singh, considered close to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, to the post of President of the Indian Wrestling Federation.
If reports are to be believed, Poonia had tried to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and submit his protest letter. However, policemen stopped him on his duty route to Delhi. After this, Bajrang placed his Padmashree medal on top of the letter on the footpath. Let us tell you that the Sports Ministry on Sunday suspended WFI till further orders. The ministry said that the newly elected body did not give enough time to the wrestlers to prepare and made a ‘hasty announcement’ of holding the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships. Along with this, the ministry said that the new organization was working ‘completely under the control of the former office-bearers’ which is not in accordance with the National Sports Code.
